Some of the best writing I’ve read all year.

Wow, wow and wow. It's been a while since a book floored me quite like this one. The writing is exquisite, the form original and experimental and the subject matter so important. This book swept me in and put me in a suspended state long after I read the final page. A really important read.

While I appreciate the presence of queer writers and the power of queer voice representation especially as a emotional violence survivor and gay woman myself, I really was not a fan of her writing style and the constant change between first person and second person and third person narration. It was hard to follow. The repetitive tone left me constantly wondering, “Where is this going?”
I’m sure to some it reads artistic and poetic, but I just found it irritating.

Carmen Maria Machado, you broke the boundaries of memoir and rebuilt something truly incredible out of the rubble. You did the same with my heart ❤️
