This was such an entertaining and charming book. I loved the subtle references to The Hobbit (check out the chapter titles!) and the ridiculous and imaginative events. This book was sweet, funny, and fascinating. I loved it.

YA sci-fi book. Super fun, in which a group of middle schoolers find a sofa on the side of the road, inside the cushions of which is a rare zucchini-colored crayon. I won't tell you how that saves the world, but it's a fun ride. Also, the sofa is sentient.

Very cute - filled with quirky humor and witty wordplay. Good for boys or girls, probably high-level 4th grade to low-level 7th grade reading level/interest level.

Three sometime friends, a discarded sofa and a zucchini green crayon are the subjects of a story chock full of adventures including alien invasions, a talking domino and an ax-bearing hologram granny. The adventures and antics of Freak, Fiona and River are so numerous to summarize here.

I felt at times the plot of the story was blurred by the outlandish twists and turns. There were some things introduced (such as the hologram granny) that didn't serve a purpose to move the plot along and became a distraction. I can see the appeal of this novel to the mid-grade level students (I think they would love it) but it was a little too chaotic for my taste.

this book was totally adorable.
river, freak, and fiona are middle school students in cheshire pa, near hellsborough, a coal mine that has been burning for many years. they think they're ordinary middle school kids until a mysterious sofa appears at their bus stop. incredible discoveries in the sofa cushions link the three together and send them on an unbelievable journey to save the world from mind control, flash mobs, and an evil corporation bent on world domination. assisting them are Alf, a most probably crazy inter-world traveler, Guernica, a self-aware computer system, a non-ghost named Miranda, and of course the sofa.
