This story was hard to read being a mom, but v relatable. Also as if I need more evidence that men/the patriarchy are the WORST.

This started so well and last 30% was terrible!! Rushed, predictable, and not good.

Nu, so I have read yet another chick-lit book featuring small children. In this one, I had to read on after I read how Daniel, the toddler of one of the two main characters, wears a yellow bathrobe every day because he idolizes Luke Skywalker. (I found this adorable, and it does make me worry about my depth of cynicism.)

Our two main characters -- one an apparent paragon of virtue and style, and the other an unemployed slob who is always late for everything.

Most of the men in the book are just pigs. The spousal baggage of the two main characters constitutes an exception.

The story builds pretty well. The last part--and I knew this was coming--but it seemed so obvious, and it was sort of a let-down.

"Friends With Secrets" is a delightful cozy mystery that truly shines with themes of female empowerment. Gunderson has crafted well-rounded characters, and her development of them is impressive for a debut novel. The narrative feels formulaic yet resonates deeply with mothers from various backgrounds, making it relatable and engaging. I particularly appreciated the strong relationships among the characters and the emphasis on their empowerment. While the twist in the story was enjoyable, the ending felt a bit rushed as Gunderson wrapped things up quickly. Overall, it's a great read that's perfect for fans of the genre!
