Love the friendship that Nikki and Ainsley built!  I feel a lot like Nikki most days, though my kiddos are more spread out in age, but I definitely identified with her a lot. The ending felt a little rushed, like we went from climactic point to end without much wind down, but overall loved the story!

I would have loved reading this story about stressed out young moms when I was a stay at home mom of little ones. The target audience for Friends With Secrets is clearly other frazzled moms who, like our heroines, may also be grappling with identity crises or feelings of inadequacy. I’m not sure how well the story will resonate with other groups, but it’s a nice cozy little mystery.

While both Ainsley and Nikki are great moms, they are opposite in every other way. One is super organized and the other is scatterbrained; one dresses in matching designer duds while the other is lucky if her clothes look clean; one lives in a mansion with servants and the other is just making ends meet. I enjoyed their differences and the ying-yang nature of their unexpected friendship.

Although a lot of stress could have been avoided, the plan/mystery was enjoyable. With a little editing, Friends With Secrets could have been 4 stars, but it just drags on too long.

This was my July pick for Amazon First Reads, and wow, I am sure glad I picked it.! Ainsley has the outward appearance of the perfect wife and mother. She is immaculately dressed, has two children, has a fabulous immaculate home, and a wealthy husband who is running for governor. Nikki has just had her fourth child, was let go as a news anchor while on maternity leave, has a home that is littered with toys and chaos, and wears wrinkled Def Leopard t-shirts abs pants held together with safety pins, and is perpetually late for everything. These ladies seem to have little in common except that their children attend the same school; however, nothing is at it seems. A friendship is born when they notice something is off with the newly hired athletic director/coach at their kids school.

This book has a lot of themes about motherhood and friendships that were completely spot on. I laughed out loud several times while reading this one and cried a couple times too. I full on want to be BFFs with these ladies! I absolutely could not put this one down. There are also some great discussion questions at the end. I think this would be a great book club pick. There is a lot to unpack and discuss.

3.5. Easy read, if you can suspend belief on some of the coincidences and the way things lined up…it’s a great book about women empowerment and taking the bad guy down. The Camp Confidence story line was confusing, who actually owned it? And why did the girl counselors remain there?
