It's interesting to read a post pandemic apocalypse after the whole actual pandemic. It's well written, and I always like split perspective and split timelines. I feel like some of the plot points could have been tied up clearer, for a book that so deliberately makes sure all the characters have oelverlapping lives, we sort of miss out on what happens with Elizabeth. It just feels like that plot line was left unconcerned, while everyone else had their loose ends tied up.

I set the book down once to go get lunch. I walked outside and a car drove past me on the street. I nearly burst into tears.

I had been wanting to read this one for ages and wish I had gotten to it before 2020. I would have loved to have done a reading both pre- and post- 2020/2021 just to see how my thoughts on it changed. I related to so so many things in this book and while this was clearly a much deadlier virus than covid, there were still so many similarities in actions and emotions surrounding a pandemic.

Some of the storylines were a bit slow for me and didn't hold my attention. I also felt like there were some unfinished bits and pieces at the end that needed to be wrapped up. Overall, a great read and am looking forward to reading more from the author.

What if a super flu took out 98% of the human population and instead of people becoming lawless rebels or tiny fiefdoms or uptight religious communes (though some do!) a group of people formed a theater troupe called the Traveling Symphony and did a circuit around the Great Lakes performing Shakespere theater and music to the leftover masses? This is the book that answers that question!

Skipping back and forth through time from right before the flu and 20 years later this book follows a few different survivors and their interactions both before and after the flu hits. The characters are the focus of the story, not the event itself though the flu does drive everything that is going on. I really enjoyed this book both because the author is very good at writing unique people with their own driving forces and personalities and because not many post apocalyptic books focus on the middle period between “the end” and generations in the future. The only other one I can think of that does so is The Postman by David Brin. I recommend this to people that want a good dystopian novel that focuses more on humanity and characters then the dystopia itself.

From the blurb I wasn’t super excited for this book but when reading it I was almost immediately drawn in. The scenery and characters are well written and the author knows how to draw you in. The book jumps around to different times but it’s made clear to you when and where you are. I’ll definitely be reading her other books.

Thoroughly enjoyed this read. I enjoyed the non-linear storytelling and all of the characters and how they all felt connected through one specific character. The writing was good, a little clunky in some places but not so much to spoil the overall feel.
I personally would have preferred the Prophet to have played a bigger role or presented as a bigger threat overall but regardless, this is still a very enjoyable book.
I would recommend to anyone who enjoys post-apocalyptic speculative fiction.

I really liked this it felt unique from other like dystopian novels. I enjoyed it though like it was just nice to get lost in the different storylines. I read this in 2 days and thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn’t watch the show so I didn’t know what I expected the story to really be about but like idk it just excited me and was also sad but engaging.
