A lovely read. It was particularly poignant for me, as it is set almost in my backyard and the protagonist is, like me, a woman of a certain age. I think, however, it would appeal to anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the turning of the seasons, both literally and figuratively. It made me want to create for myself a similarly attainable heaven. Or perhaps more appropriately, recognize that our paradise is right here if we choose to see it.
Moderate: Sexual assault

This was a beautifully written atmospheric novel that follows a woman in middle age finding peace and happiness with a quieter way of life. I really enjoyed just how much the setting was a core of the story. You could really feel life in Northern Canada and people who have lived there are going to recognize so much. Recommended for fans of Mary Lawson and great on audio narrated by the author herself. Many thanks to Librofm for my ALC in exchange for my honest review!

What a beautiful book! This was the first of Elizabeth Hay's books that I'd read and now I can't wait to explore some of her other work.
Snow Road Station is not action-heavy but instead has thoughtful writing and beautiful character development. I loved spending time with Lulu and Nan and many of the other characters. It took me longer than I expected to make it to the end as I found I wanted to take my time and soak in the gorgeous prose.
With thanks to Goodreads for the giveaway that introduced me to Elizabeth Hay's writing!

As someone living in rural Ontario, I was excited to read a book set in the province I love. Snow Road Station gave me the atmosphere I craved with perfect pace, and celebrated our four seasons with an alluring narrative voice. I loved seeing a woman of late middle-age as the main character, a demographic given, I find, little attention in literature. Lulu's energy and internal struggle drew me in and I was quickly rooting for her. While I appreciate the book's resolution, I did feel it dwindled in intensity in the last quarter. Overall an enjoyable, immersive read.
