THIS WAS ADORABLEE!!
I was so excited to (finally) read my first Talia Hibbert book and it did not disappoint!
Talia shows so much personality in her writing and that's what made this book so much fun to read. Bradley and Celine had the best internal dialogue, both perspectives were so unique, sarcastic and so so funny. The character development in this story was PHOEOMENAL! From the very start till the very end, our characters were learning and growing along side when it came to each's personal struggles. And lastly, of course, the romance. Bradley and Celine were so good for each other! I really enjoyed the development of their relationship while learning about all their history and then watching them overcome said history. I rooted for them the whole time. The miscommunication near the end of the book was slightly annoying to read since it was all so avoidable, but I understood why the characters did what they did and appreciated them for it nonetheless.
Overall, a so so cute YA romance!

This was a fun and easy read but I found myself wanting more from the characters. I like the camp storyline but felt like it was all a bit rushed for my liking.

Siendo un libro de adolescentes lo disfruté bastante, creo que esta autora consigue darles realismo a los personajes. Una lectura tranquila para un día que no quieres pensar en nada.

Talia Hibbert never misses, and Brad is an absollute golden retriver. The ending is completely corny and predictable, but with small suprises. I loved how Celine did not win the scholarship, but Brad did. It reinforced that the unexpected could be what you actually need, not what you think you need. Especially as Celine lived, breathed, and died by her plans and would not let anything get in her way.
On the other hand, I wish there was more communication between Celine and Brad about their issues. I wanted to see a conversation about the financial aspects of competing for the scholarships and how decisions they both made played into their lack of friendship for years. Additionally I would have loved to seen Celine have a conversation or acknowledge her father at the banquet. I think it would have been a great example of how Celine is letting go of the things she can't control and beginning to stop letting the absence of her father dictate (directly or indirectly) her life's choices.

If I had not read this for teen book club at work, I would have DNFed it based on Celine's pov. I found her very unlikeable as a character with her superior attitude. Brad's OCD and general self-awareness causes him to be a more sympathetic character, and I wanted to see him follow his own path. They both have great growth by the end, though, and seem to understand how they are shorting themselves. The romance story is very predictable but still sweet. Communication and emotion management are big driving forces of the book, which I think means is a good choice for teens to read and inadvertently learn about social interaction and themselves. By far, my favorite parts are the witty banter between Celine and Brad in the first half of the book, because they are both so clever and snippy.

This book was unfairly cute. The banter! The friends to enemies to reluctant friends to lovers! I spent so much of this book giggling and wondering how this is my first Talia Hibbert book but at least now I know what my next few reads are going to be! Thanks so much to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC. This 5 star read has filled me with so much happiness and I hope everyone loves it as much as I did.
Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute follows Celine and Brad, two high school seniors (for those of us who had to look up what secondary school was since this takes place in England) that were childhood best friends turned enemies when Brad became popular and Celine was left behind. We get dual POV in this book so reading their “hatred” of each other just made me giggle because it’s two people clearly in love with each other hiding behind their supposed enemy status. Their reluctant friendship when they both apply for and get an opportunity for a university scholarship with a foundation run by one of the country’s most prominent lawyers was absolutely adorable. Their interactions as they become reluctant friends and realize that what they feel for each other may not just be friendly kept me hooked.
I found it difficult to put into words just how much I adored this book and Talia Hibbert’s writing. I truly cannot wait to read her backlist and I look forward to whatever she’s going to publish in the future.
