One of the things I love most about this series is the masterful way Johnathan Stroud weaves in his world building.  Subtle things happen that you don't understand the fine nuances of until you've read the entire story, and yet you can start the series anywhere, books 1 through 5, and you won't feel lost.

i liked the second book more than the first one, but the story was predictable once again. oh, and that Skull is definitely my favorite character now <3
