After the previous book I was holding high hope for this one. Having already known the characters it had a slowish start but was soon back up to the not put down ability of the first book.

This book took me a while to get through, and I read multiple other books at the same time, which I finished before finishing this one. I donβt know if it has to do with the actual writing or the fact that, having watched the Netflix series, I felt like I knew what was going to happen, but I found it lacking something. I donβt quite know what but do still like the characters and think the premise of the series is great. Overall, a good book and I will be continuing to read the rest of the series!

Second book in the series and this was so good!
Character arcs have deppened since book one as Lucy is definitely part of Lockwood and Co. now and fully integrated.
Loved the further interactions between Lucy and George as they settle since their dynamic felt a bit rockier as George was left out of the action in the first half of this latest case regarding Bickerstaff, a Victorian doctor who tried communicating with the dead before his mysterious death.
The open ending was a fantastic surprise so again, kudos to Stroud because while I was hoping to get more info into Lockwood's past, that was an unexpected twist and I'm so going back to the library for the next installment!
