It's a very well written book, but I could do without a paragraph just to describe a character's outfit all for them to die by the next paragraph. It took me nearly a full year to read this one, because it's it's very slow paced. Trying to decide if I should buy the second one or not, I hate that it left me on basically 3 cliffhangers, but also not sure if I like the book enough for the next one.

The Shadow of the Gods is an outstanding read and easily one of the best fantasy books I’ve picked up in a long time. Drawing clear inspiration from Norse mythology, the world feels both ancient and fresh.

The world-building is phenomenal. Gwynne doesn’t just create a setting—he builds a full history, complete with myths, monsters, and deep-rooted cultural that shape every part of the story.

The characters are just as strong. Each one has a unique voice and a compelling reason to be part of the journey. Their personal struggles, loyalties, and decisions feel grounded and real, which makes it easy to care about what happens to them.

This is dark, gritty fantasy done right. The story keeps you fully engaged from start to finish.
