is the main relationship in this book a lil toxic? yes. did i enjoy this book? omg absolutely. it’s a dark romantasy that deals with a lot of heavy topics. you should definitely read the trigger warnings before reading this book.

Blood of Hercules is all world-building and rising action. The writing is very Assistant to the Villain except much less light and fluffy. This is darkly hilarious, but strong emphasis on the dark. Alexis Hert grows up homeless and in a nightmare foster situation. She hates to be touched, and she struggles with verbal communication. She spends the majority of the book being physically and psychologically tortured into her villain era. The romance in this is dark and warped. I mentioned this was funny, and I know you aren't seeing it. Give the audiobook a try though if you're interested, and the narrator's perfect portrayal might make it clearer.
I read the first 70% via audiobook and then switched to an ebook because I read much faster that way and was devouring it. Interested in what the next book in this series has going on.

Vibes:
Who did this to you?
Reverse Harem
Touch her and die (from everyone, especially her)
Incest-adjacent (idk if that's a thing, but the chthonics are basically only a handful of immortals with lots of crossover so kinda weird)
Entrapment

People have mentioned a very shady SA scene at the end. Consent is questionable enough throughout that it should be known before you read too.

this is so ungodly bad. the characters have no depth, the plot is held together by strings (and boy they are fraying), and the writing is bad.

“There has been no great wisdom without an element of madness.”

“A man was speaking, so I stopped listening.”

I was very excited to finally read this book. It has been on my TBR for a very long time and I was buzzing when I pulled it out of my TBR Jar!

I was thoroughly disappointed. The whole book, to me, felt like a fever dream. I got to 50% and still didn’t have a clue what the plot was. As a lover of Greek mythology, I was very excited to delve into the history, but a lot of it didn’t make sense. The storyline jumped throughout the chapters to the point where I thought I had jumped ahead a couple of chapters and missed the plot lines.

I didn’t connect with Alexis (the fmc) at all, although some of her one-liners did make me laugh. As a person, who was very innocent and naive, to be explaining things the way she was, to me, didn’t make sense. The ‘Why Chose?’ trope in this, I hated! It didn’t make sense to me. The Lore behind Augustus and Kharon wasn’t spoken about, or introduced until 30% of the way throughout the book.

I found myself cringing at the parts where others would have loved. I found myself laughing at parts where others would have cried. The only characters I truly adored in this book were the protector creatures.

I think the storyline was an interesting concept, but it wasn’t executed in the right way. 2⭐️
