Summary/Overview/Personal opinion
The warnings should be taken serious.
Alexis was trying to survive in a world full of Spartans and Titans.
As a human, where there’s a scarcity on everything after the world crumbled during the last Titan attack, she just wanted to keep her and her brother alive to use their food stamps. First she would have to pass a test.
Unfortunately she passed with flying colors. Turns out she’s a Spartan. Forced into an endurance ritual at the Spartan War Academy, she has to survive a year in unforgiving conditions along with the mentors and professors that hate her for an unknown reason.
With scars and a painful past, Alexis tries to get through this new obstacle and maybe find out that there’s more to her life than trauma she’s been shoved into since birth. Maybe her teachers Augustus, son of the god of war, and Kharon, the ferryman of death, with help or will they add to the pile?
If you enjoy characters not communicating with each other, a messed up society that the main character doesn’t know the rule to but every expects her to know, and main character that keeps falling down depressive-traumatic mental rabbit holes. This is your book.
The audiobook is has an amazing full cast. Expect Meg Sylvan narrating for 95% of the story.
Details can go for too long and the main character is blind to a lot of misinformation which can be frustrating. Don’t go in expecting things to match up to Greek Myth.
Personal opinion: I liked this story. It brought back memories of reading original fiction online and excited when the next update was going to drop. It’s a patience endurance where I’m rooting for Alexis’ brain to power on. I pre-orders the next book.
