Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book.

Jan needs a reset after losing her boyfriend and her job. She rents a small cottage with one caveat: she must dogsit the owner's dog. Strange things begin happening almost immediately, from creepy noises to the dog's strange behavior. Just what is happening in the woods behind the cabin?

This was a quick read. it was engaging if not pulse-pounding or shocking. It's definitely a nice, easy read if you're looking for that.

The Cottage by Lisa Stone wasn’t at all what I expected, and I was definitely disappointed in how it turned out. While I think the premise is an important topic to talk about, I think the different POVs really took away from the underlying horror of this book. This didn’t need to be a what’s outside the window in the dark mystery, and I think it would have actually been a lot better without this added element. The story seemed disjointed, and I often wondered to myself what Jan’s purpose actually was other than to be scared. Again, I think this took away from the overall messaging, and I think the story could have really benefited from leaving out this POV entirely. Ultimately, it was underwhelming and cringy, but did make some important points about what can happen when medical practices are family operated and not properly licensed.

Wow!!!! What a fantastic book. Got to be one of the best books I’ve read. Links so well with each other and the whole storyline was gripping. Will be looking up more of Lisa Stone Books

“Newly unemployed and single Jan moves into a secluded cottage, wedged between a sleepy town and a thick, dark forest. A break away from everything she knows and to spend time alone with her thoughts, Jan is disturbed by shadowy movements and strange noises in her garden.”

A spooky premise and an archetypal horror setting sets this thriller up to be a fast paced and compelling read - one that I was quick to jump into… however I did find that though the premise was far fetched but exciting, the book became a little absurd and failed to deliver it’s promise.

While the prose continued to be addictive, it did become very repetitive and the use of language felt clunky, the character arcs a tad inane. The overall theme of the book is pretty easy to spot from about a third of the way in and while it is a fascinating twist to the story, I feel that it wasn’t handled particularly well and that the discussion around this topic was flippant and the research flimsy.

I read this book as part of a buddy read and lots of my fellow readers really enjoyed it, isn’t that the beauty of reading? One book can evoke such a range of emotions from readers and leave starkly different impressions.

Esté libro daba la vibra de ser como de fantasmas, o seres extraños que habitaban en los bosques pero resulto ser algo más serio y sinceramente deja como el corazón apachurrado ya que te enteras de la verdad.

It was okay, it was interesting but it was hard to connect with the characters. Other than that i would recommend.
