Meh. Parts of it were cute but the characters flat and the story was predictable.

Not a particularly well-written book, but enjoyable nonetheless. I thought the main characters were each entertaining in their own way, and it was a compelling.

Great book about four women of different backgrounds who come together for a school diversity committee and end up playing poker every time they ge together. Whereas nothing gets done for the diversity committee and poker becomes the highlight off their meetings (theyes play for secrets), it's really about discovering true friends and learning how to, and allowing yourself to rely on and trust these friends.

Four of a kind is a Boone about four women who lead very different lives but have one thing in common, their children All attend a prestigious Brooklyn Heights private school. The women come together to plan diversity events but find themselves playing poker and revealing secrets that don't even admit to themselves. By the end of the book each of the women's lives change in dramatic ways.

I enjoyed the characters and witty dialogue in this book. I love books where I want to be a part of the characters lives and Frankel writes women's friendships well. My biggest problem with the book is it gets wordy at times and the technical scenes with poker bog down the pacing. Frankel obviously enjoys poker but for the pacing of the book much of the jargon and detailed accounts of a game could have been left out. I read for the interpersonal relationships and not a how to on poker.

Regardless it was a fun read that was spot on about breaking out of our comfort zones and living into our true lives.
