i just… this book made me feel so warm and so loved
though, at times i was a bit uncomfy with the way women were described, particularly when assault was mentioned. it was a bit triggering for me and would take me out of the fantasy, so i was leaning more towards 4.5 stars tbh, but .5 stars don’t exist on this platform!!

It's almost 5 am and my cheeks are drenched in tears. The Iliad was one of the first stories I remember hearing when I started to show interest in mythology and ancient Greece. I know this story from top to bottom because it fascinated me. I knew how it ended. I knew how much it would hurt, and I still sobbed like a baby when that lance pierced his belly. This retelling is so beautiful... The yearning in this book... Patroclus talks about Achilles as if he had hanged the moon and the stars for him. As if the breeze and the rivers were there solely because of him and nothing else mattered but his smile. I felt his love, his pain and his desperation in each sentence and each paragraph. This is such a heartbreaking read, but also so beautiful and full of love and hope.
