Ok this is the best book I have read by far. I had already read a version of Trojan war in high school, absolutely loved it and like most people who read illiad, Achilles was my favourite character. But the character development of Achilles and Patroclus in this is on another level. I genuinely cannot find flaws in the writing, the story, the character depth, the buildup. To me, this is how perfect a book can get.
Looking forward to reading more from Madeline Miller!

:((( heart wrenching.
how bittersweet it was going from the beginning and their precious time in the mountain to the end. achilles development was painful but made for a devastating and loving story. ugh. i had a guess as to how things would end based on how people talk about this book and i still cried.

Great read, love the retelling of the Iliad. The key to this book is the multi-dimensional characters with their human emotions.

i loved reading this right after Clytemnestra, as i had already learned so much about characters i found myself thoroughly enjoying the new perspectives and details regarding the long war. not just the war, watching Patroclus and Achilles grow old together was a delight. I teared up a little bit during their deaths, but because Achilles was being an entitled prick the weeks leading up to his downfall i was not as sad as i would have been if his death occurred earlier. you could say that i’ve fallen victim to how many of the greeks saw him
the obsession Patroclus had with Achilles feet did not go unnoticed by me btw. homeboy loved his boy’s feet
