Smokin' Seventeen was quite funny. A bit crazy and I guessed the murderer. but I really liked this one a lot. Now I need to read the other parts too I guess.
Joe Morelli's Grandma Bella really did a number on Stephanie Plum in this one.
I've come to love the Stephanie Plum series as an annual escape from more serious books. 17 still toys with the old Morelli/Ranger heartstrings.

Have these novels been turned into novellas? Has the author resorted to chopping each book in half so she can collect two paychecks? And when did our main character become so loose? I still love me some Lula, and Grandma Mazur, and Ranger, but this series has jumped the shark.
Good book. However the love triangle in the plot needs to be resolved.

I think I am losing faith in this book series. Just two years ago I was burning through the entire book series like crazy (and spending money like crazy trying to buy all the books). Now, it takes me a while to muster up the energy to read it because I can always feel the disappointment coming. However, I will say this this installment was one of the better ones since the 9th novel. I actually laughed out loud at several points in the story, but I also figured out who the killer was LONG before Steph put it together. I know you are smarter than that Steph (why I am talking directly to a fictional character, I have no idea). I am hoping the 18th book shows even more improvement. I am not ready to give on this wonderful series just yet.
Smokin’ Seventeen is the first of the Stephanie Plum novels I have dipped into. I find myself sadly acknowledging it will likely be the last. Endearing as the characters are in there caricature-like style, the narrative seems too silly even for a book of its kind.
Comic mysteries do not necessarily delve into horror-like realism but even so, the plot points in Smokin’ Seventeen reads more as a child’s series than a lighthearted and witty murder story. Predictable and farcical to the point of excess, the only redeemable factors seem to be Plum’s punchy one liners and relatable moments scattered throughout the book.
