Completely childish and relaxing to read. The intro part that tells that tolkien told his son this story when he lost his toy puppy, that part really made me remember all those times I've lost any of my favourite toys. It would be really nice back then, if someone told me a story that the toy went on an adventure of it’s own.

Wonderful book for children whimsical and something that challenges rather than complements a child’s vocabulary and reading.

My first Tolkien after a decade, maybe. Nice, fluffy and heartwarming story. Since he wrote this before The Hobbit, there were many proto-LOTR characters in it. I had fun trying to draw parallels.

Trust JRR to write a children's novel and yet write it well enough for adults to enjoy it.

How in the world have I not read that before or so much as even seen a copy?? I wish desperately I'd read it as a very small child because I would have been madly in love and probably gone out and named a dog after the title immediately.

Originated from a tale Tolkien told his kids after one of them lost a toy dog. It's cute and very English. Its origin as a bedtime story is evident, but it doesn't grab you as well at other parts of the day.

Roverandom is actually one of the few Tolkien tales that I didn't enjoy. I never feel engaged with the characters in this story. The scene with the Sand man is one of the only parts in the piece that I distinctly remember liking. The moon dragon I just found kind of boring. Unfortunately, this is one Tolkien writing that I cannot connect with.
