I won a copy of this book from a goodreads' First Reads giveaway

As the subtitle states, this book is about empowering women to help make the world a better place. In this book, Melinda Gates talks about her work with the Gates Foundation and how through that foundation she is working with others to help empower women. She shares her own stories and the stories of others that she has heard through her philanthropic work. She focuses on different topics like child marriage, family planning, access to education for girls, unpaid labor (i.e. the work women do to run their household). Melinda and her foundation are working to help raise awareness of these issues and to remedy them where they can be.

While the book shows that we have a ways to go, it did leave me feeling hopeful.

I found this book to be good and interesting. I, of course, know who Melinda Gates is but other than that I knew nothing about her. I was impressed with her caring, down-to-earth personality. She visited some very poor areas of the world and put a lot of time and effort into listening to their stories and their needs and trying to help improve the lives of the women there. She's more than a wealthy lady. She's smart and caring. Reading this you can practically see the lift and empowerment she is trying to give to women in the world and I think it's a great thing.

I loved reading about the relevant subjects such as the family planning, the cultural and educational aspect that poor people have regarding problems like contraception, vaccine, food, religion, geography and more. This book made me realize how important, and how much of THE solution of many issues women are.
Theses stories are heartbreaking but ironically also somehow uplifting. I feel tremendous compassion for the women and children from the stories.

i look at Bill and Melinda Gates with a new perspective now.
Greta book...although a little repetitive at times.
