I’m an emotional wreck???? I wasn’t anticipating this HELP.

Ok but on a serious note I love the worldbuilding in this, really sets your imagination going in all its (literally) visceral goodness. I have so many questions which have me hotly anticipating reading the sequels...I have ordered Harrow so not long.

Lesbianly speaking I cannot tell you how refreshing it was to read such casual and earnest lesbian desire from Gideon in a way that neither felt voyeuristic or cushioned by any sort of twee softness.

Looking forward to going back and tabbing bits for reference so I can draw fun things.

To say I had been recommended this book... I just couldn't go through it anymore. It was painful to try to read.

I'm so glad that I finally read Gideon the Ninth. My expectations were very high because I've heard so many good things, and I was afraid that I was setting this book up for failure, but I'm happy to be wrong!

Although the dialogue in the first 30-40% from our main character is questionable (in fact, I found Gideon unlikable for much of the first half), sticking through for the story is so worth it and the second half is all the more impactful because of the character development that you go through with both Gideon & Harrow. Harrow was my favorite character from her first scene so I'm very excited to get into book 2 in due time.

My original, incomplete review for this book was "we are so back" because every so often there's a fantasy book with such strong characters & vibes that it gives me that feeling of excitement that I got with The Mortal Instruments when I started reading as a kid. Gideon the Ninth joins Legendborn & Dark Rise in my personal category of "we are so back" fantasy (of which I highly recommend them all).

I really liked the main two characters, world building, and plot. A really good mix of fantasy and science. It took me a while to get into the book, though, with all the different characters. Maybe I should have used the glossary in the beginning more. I'm still very invested in reading the rest of the series.
