For a 21-page short story, I was really impressed! The Hope of Elantris (also included in Arcanum Unbounded, which is what I'm reading from), was good, but felt a little underwhelming to me at times. Granted, The Hope of Elantris followed a new side-character, whereas The Eleventh Metal followed one of my favorite main characters in the Cosmere, shedding some light on his backstory. So far, this is probably my favorite story in Arcanum Unbounded (granted, I haven't read too many of these yet--- just Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell and The Hope of Elantris).

The pacing was great. The story gave a nice introduction to the world and its magic, showed Kelsier's struggles (both emotionally and in terms of abilities), has great action, grew Kelsier into the man we know from Mistborn, and set up the events of The Final Empire. You can definitely start the series with this one. Sure, you'll miss out on the significance of some events and references, but Sanderson did a great job introducing all the awesome things contained in the Mistborn series. This felt like a prologue to The Final Empire, whereas The Hope of Elantris felt like an extra. Gemmel, Kelsier's teacher, was hilarious. I would've loved a full prequel novel (or at least a longer novella) about Kelsier's time training under this guy. I also saw many hints at Kelsier's future training of Vin through his own training, which brought a smile to my face.

This little story was an EASY five-stars, and is making me question whether I want to read Words of Radiance or The Well of Ascension after finishing up The Way of Kings.

This short story was very clean--- only a couple instances (literally) of mild language, some violence (mainly relegated to the climax), some brief (yet still very sad) descriptions of life as a Skaa, and a few references to Kelsier's PTSD caused by the Pits of Hathsin (I feel so bad for Kelsier :[ )

Another short story, this time giving us a glimpse into Kelsier’s frame of mind before Mistborn Era 1. Makes me want to reread the first trilogy!

It's ok, but also very short and it doesn't add all that much to the mistborn trilogy to which it is a prequel
