This was a nice backstory to when Kelsier escaped the Pits of Hathsin and tried to find new meaning in life after the trauma around his escape and his significant others death. It wasn’t very long; about the length of a chapter. There were a couple of Easter eggs that referenced to important events in the Mistborn era 1 trilogy so I would recommend reading this right after reading that trilogy for the most emotional effect.
lots of repeated exposition if you read final empire, but cool to see the beginnings of Kelsier's plan

At only 21 pages, there isn’t much to review. However, after finishing the Mistborn Trilogy recently, this quick story sheds a bit more light on Kelsier’s motivations in The Final Empire. I’d say it’s worth a read to any Mistborn fans who are looking for a tiny bit more lore, but is certainly not essential.

This is really hard to give a rating since it's such a short novella.
Kelsier was my favorite character in The Final Empire, so I loved getting to see more of him and how his journey as a mistborn started.
I just wish we got more.
In understand why we didn't. There's a passage at the end that explains that Sanderson wrote this for an RPG and so he wanted to make it accessible to people who might be playing that didn't read the original trilogy. Aka more expository, explaining the world, and not giving any spoilers. Because of that, it definitely doesn't give as much as I wish it did.
That being said, I love that you can see Ruin's influence if you have read the original trilogy, and see how he really was influencing everything from the start, not just with Vin, but with Kelsier too.
