After her daughter is given up for adoption against her will, Miranda has been roaming the United States, working odd jobs and hoping for a reunion. When she goes to Atlanta on a lead, though, it is to find herself drawn into a web of a serial killer.
The premise was interesting, but I wasn't sure if I liked Miranda or not. She has a tough personality due to the abuse she faced in the past, but she also acts erratically and I did not think much of her investigative skills. I did not enjoy the romance, and I thought the twist of the killer's identity was far-fetched.

I'm sorry, but I found the novel mostly boring and the main character unlikable.
For a book that screams "She doesn't need a man" about the protagonist, Miranda Steele comes across as an adolescent stuck between 'boys have cooties', while at the same time thinking only of (quoting) 'the luscious lips' of the other guy. For chapters. When she is not thinking about sexy detective, she is having fistfights with every cupboard sized 'evil' man and woman in town (there is a lot of them, apparently).
Then there is (sexy) detective Wade Parker and the 'I just met her in prison, she is accused of murder, but I know she is different!'. Of course, the rest of the world cannot see how special Miranda is, never mind that she behaves aggressively and unreasonably or that she manages to be insulting every time she opens her mouth ('I don't need a piece of paper to feel gratified' when she is asked about her studies in a job interview...)
What saved the book was the fact I jumped directly from chapter 15 or so to 29, where the "languid eyes phase" between the two protagonist was mostly over and we finally got back into the story.

This book was nothing like I thought it would be. Miranda is a mess, but she's awesome. I just hope she finds love.
A decent mystery, probably a 3.5, but I like to round up. I was disappointed in the budding romance through much of the book, but was pleased with how it ended. Not so neat as I expected.
Very enjoyable!
This is NOT the type of book I usually read, but maybe that's why I enjoyed it so much

This book is well written and the mystery is definitely the plot with a heavy romance background. But gosh, it’s hard to like Miranda (FMC) in this book and I think because of that we don’t get to like Parker (MMC). But….. like I said the writing is good so I’ll give book 2 a go.
Someone Else’s Daughter was a quick read and I was very satisfied that it didn’t have the “pat” ending I thought it was headed toward. Miranda Steel is a survivor of a violent, abusive marriage to a somewhat powerful or at least connected man. She has spent thirteen years surviving and trying to track down her daughter after the court system failed her. A clue leads her to Atlanta and an exclusive neighborhood, where a killer is murdering young girls. Miranda gets entangled in the murder case as she hunts for her daughter. I am not sure if I will read another, too much reliance on coincidences and the protagonist does not come across as believable. She is more like a comic book super hero.
