This book was a good mix between lighthearted and tug on your heartstrings moments. This is a book that is definitely for a more mature audience. That is one thing I didn't not like about the book is the amount of spice. But this is my personal preference. So if you are like me and don't like spicy books then maybe this one is not for you.

SPICE WARNINGS/SPOILERS

*Most of these scenes I skipped over so I might not remember everything*

  • There is mention on sex and orga... But nothing happens and it is easy to skip over.
  • The first kiss scene is very descriptive but again you can skip over this part and still get an idea of what is going on.
  • There is a moment where the two main characters are in a room together. One takes the clothes off of the other because they can't. Their eyes are closed the whole time. Then they end up kissing and almost in bed. But things stop before anything happens. One of the characters is also drunk as well.
  • The last kiss scene is pretty clean as it is infront of people.
  • There is also talk about death, anxiety attacks, and injuries

‘It's all about writing the very best story of your life. Not just about how you live it—but how you choose to tell it. If you wait for other people to light you up, then I guess you're at the mercy of darkness.’

Emma is looking to launch her writing career when she is given the opportunity to co-write a rom-com screenplay. Charlie, already famous in his own right, really isn’t interested in the project but needs it so he can move forward with one he really wants to write. This forced proximity story sadly left me feeling underwhelmed.

Unpopular opinion | 😔

I’ve discovered over the last several years, that I enjoy a contemporary romance much more than a rom-com. Sometimes I need a bit of lightness, but more often I also need depth.

This book does have some heavy topics, but I found I was missing the connection I was really hoping for. I couldn’t feel a sense of chemistry. When you get to the last quarter of the book before anything is happening, it’s really too late to care.

This feels harsh, but true. The ‘twist’ at the end was the final nail. Unbelievable. I didn’t hate it, I just wasn’t invested. Maybe it’s just me? 🤷🏼‍♀️ This is my personal experience with the book. Maybe it will land better for you.

I do love the colors of the cover and the little details on the inside of the book, and the sprayed edges.

CW | Contains moderate profanity throughout, some instances of strong profanity.

I’ve loved every Katherine Center book I’ve read. She’s an auto-buy author for me. The Bodyguard is still my favorite followed by Hello Stranger. The Rom-Commers held up to my expectations! There was humor, fun, witty banter and heartwarming moments. Katherine Center’s books are more than just romance. She intertwines serious elements and ties it up with a beautiful message/lesson. 4 stars!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love this book so much. I am a Katherine Center superfan and will read everything she writes forever, but I think this might be my favorite one ever. I love books that have writing and writers and books and publishing as part of their fabric and heart, and this does it so beautifully! A good comp would be Jasmine Guillory’s By The Book, though I loved this one more probably; I love the forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine, and I guess enemies to lovers-ish tropes here, and how creative and funny KC is in her approach to those. The two main characters are both so special and complicated — I love how fully and compassionately drawn they are, and the ways that they are able to interact and build chemistry from all of those complexities. The side characters and familial relationships are beautiful and complex in their own ways, and I love the perspective and context that these other relationships and that the main characters’ back stories give to the love story at the heart of the book. I loved this so much. Read!!!! 💜

The Rom-Commers
Rating : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"Happiness is always better with a little sadness."

"We act like 'and they lived happily ever after' is trying to con us into thinking that nothing bad ever happened to anyone ever again. But that's never the way I read those words. I read them as 'and they built a life together, and looked after each other and made the absolute best of their lives."

.....................................................

I have so many thoughts on this book. First, let me say... I really enjoyed Katherine Center's writing style and the overall vibe this book carried. It flowed well and it was a light, quick read. The beginning pulled me in, and I was here for the premise of the plot. Two rom-com writers thrown together to fix a script that was in a word "terrible".

I admired the FMC, Emma. She was strong, mature, responsible, and just trying to do the best for her family. She rarely did anything for herself, and I really enjoyed that she took a chance on this adventure.

I initally found the MMC, Charlie, intriguing. He had a cute, nerdy, boy next door, disheveled vibe. I will say I did have a hard time with him during the middle of the plot. Due to the direction taken by Katherine with the plot, and some of the back and forth, I found him extremely frustrating. Maybe that was the point...I don't know.

However, I will say that as frustrated as I was in the middle third of the book, the ending did redeem some aspects of the plot. I was left with a happy, warm, fuzzy feeling, a true feeling of family, and what a 'happily ever after' truly means.
