Before bed audiobook reread!

When you randomly get the urge to read children fairytales
fast-paced

I thought this was going to be a longer read but it's more of a short story.
To be honest, it's actually quite sad, even though it is quite a beautiful story. This story isn't anything like the Disney tale many of us grew up with, even though there are some similarities.
I'm really glad that I finally made time to read this one.

My issues with the movie and this original story remain the same. It's basically saying, hey girls! Your voice doesn't matter, just be pretty and boys will fall in love with you! I will say this story doesn't promote that you'll get a happy ending if you do that, so it is a bit better than the movie. But no lie, I woulda given it another star if one of them had died.

Maybe it's a bit childish but I wanted to read the original stories from the Fairy Tales. The not: Happily Ever After.
Everybody knows Ariel but not everybody knows the story of the real sea princess. Although I still pictured the mermaid with red hair because I like Ariel but the original story is that the mermaid doesn't marry the prince.

Not all stories are as long as all and this story is only 48 pages including pictures. Instead of the much pages that Peter Pan has. Still I liked to read it, it's easy to read again and again and I'm happy with it as my early-Christmas-present.

I think that everybody should know the real stories. It's quite intruding.

More vivid than a movie

I guess I'm like many people, the only Little Mermaid story I know is the cartoon. How very different the short story by Hans Christian Andersen is to that Disney creation. You can definitely say Disney was inspired and didn't go "word for word" and I'm ok with this because the book is dark and a bit sinister at the end.
This edition has the controversy about the ending, is it original or not, but I quite like to know.

This edition also has a lot of good but limited biography of the author which added some fantastic context to many of his tales.

Glad I got to read the original story!!
