I mean, I enjoyed this, after a fashion. It was an interesting, if simple, story, told well and with mostly interesting characters. And the horror aspects don't bother me - I shop in that section of the bookstore for a reason. But the actions of the characters, pretty much every one of them, was too much. There was no build-up to some absolutely horrific acts here. People jumped from A to Z, bypassing every other step along the way, and the final landing place was some truly awful stuff. Like, unnecessarily awful stuff. Incest is a pretty heavy topic, and it really didn't serve much of a purpose here, other than to just reinforce that a character was an absolutely awful person. She sees her first dead body, and has no serious hesitations about rooting around in it? Please.
I swear I am mentally sane, regardless of the vile and nauseating things that happen, it is a good book okay

I was truly disgusted and disturbed. I was expecting this book to be goring but I wasn’t prepared for incest and ableism. won’t be reading any more by kristopher triana and I will be side eyeing anyone who says they enjoyed this book

Eh, this was okay. Lori's motives were dumb but the imagery was great. The River Man is definitely otherworldly. I also don't understand the ending. Why send her all the way out there to prove that she's worthy of your depravity just to kill her in the end? Congratulations, you both played yourselves.
