I truly loved this book. I wasn't so sure I would after the first one, which I enjoyed but wasn't enchanted with. This second book is fantastic, full of character development, world building, suspenseful plot, actually healthy and supportive romance

I know A lot of people say that this is their favourite book or the most well written book of the whole series but the more I think about it the more angry that I had to sit through 700 pages of this nonsense I get. Maybe that’s harsh, and I did enjoy the middle of the book when, like every other acotar book, nothing happens and we are just waiting for the other characters to do things while Feyrah does absolutely nothing. I actually was having fun and slightly delirious and felt coerced into spending SO MUCH TIME with this book I got stolkholm syndrome.
That being said I disliked the pacing of this book, because it was so long I forgot anything that happened the moment I read the last chapter.
<spoiler
like the spring court spy mission that contributed nothing to the plot.

I felt like the writer didn’t really plan many things, like what I mentioned earlier and
mor suddenly being gay (and her whole coming out just justifying her sexuality and talking about a guys feelings being hurt, I digress)
and the book was in desperate need of some COMMAS, none of this …. distracting- stuff…
I can’t stand rhysand, I’m sorry but this book bf is pretty weird, and I would argue almost as bad as tamlin, but people excuse it because feyrah excuses it, even though she needs to be with someone her own age and not a grandpa fairy that locks her in a bubble (yes Rhys does that too not just Tamlin)
Here are some of my notes for future me to see

  • my toes curled my toes curled
  • I realized white was the colour of death like ok Yas explain that symbolism
  • I would call this painting blah blah blah
  • It’s so long with so little happening I forget the entire plot
  • Lucien’s skin is a deep golden brown - how do people read that and draw him super white?
  • 207 - super unatural for Azriel to spring in to a monologue
  • I actually want a mind reading mate (ew
  • Azriel and Elian heeeheeegeee heeeeheee
  • Acomaf- the time sim remembered gay people exist
  • But her writing is getting better I feel, or maybe I’m just getting stolkhome syndrome
  • Oh my god it has just been the spring and autumn court being incels for 30 pagrs
Anyways I am not sure if I’ve ever seen an ending like this. I mean yes I have, but not executed quite like this. First off
the deaths. Why did two of the immortal death gods die by this random king hybren that by the way we never learn about?? But this group of insufferable night court avengers keep dying then reincarnating. It happened about five times if you count serious injury?!? I did not gaf when anyone died because they would come back ten minutes later. And yes the dad died, sad I guess that just when he stopped neglecting his daughters he died. DONT CARE bc I did not care about him in the first place.
And before the ending when Rhys goes around and gives everyone a charcuterie board level of a cheesy speech, ugh. And then Feyrah doesn’t do anything but watch from the inexplainable caldron magic and just info dumps the whole battle field.

Things I liked:
Seeing the other fairies from different courts, super interesting dynamics
Lucien - heehee I love him, I would love an Elian centred book and to learn more about

This book is a beautiful mix of love, hatred, fear, and finding oneself. Truly an amazing read and… even better than the first book!

If I could give the Court of Mist and Fury 100 out of 5 stars, I would.
