Still a really fun ride, but also a bit less more going on than the previous book in terms of character development, B plot, and the established themes. There is some nice closure for something that’s continued for a while and I feel like it was a slightly more funny. I actually spat water myself at one point while listening.
If anything the cliffhanger develops more for the ongoing B plots than the main story. There’s bubble worlds that force players to work together and it all goes to crap in various ways. It all feels pretty straightforward and more of the same, but that’s not a bad thing. I’m still interested in what happens next. It’s an action flick you put on when you want entertainment, that kind of thing.
Also, the same editing is being deployed as the last book; Carl’s internal voice, because it’s first person, is just… strange. It’s the Queens English with absolute properness, but when he speaks—which is often—it’s complete blue collar, raunchy, sailor on deck. It just makes no sense. It feels like auto correct or a really heavy handed editor that can’t abide incorrect grammar, despite perspective. It really bothers me.

Great, really enjoying the season. However, I think this probably could’ve been about a hundred pages shorter. Still really enjoyable. Curious to see how the remaining books go, considering they’re even longer. I hope it’s not too much filler.
