Taking His Shot

It took longer than expected because I wanted to savor the last installment of this series. It’s definitely more than what I hoped for.

I am so sad this series is over but what an amazing conclusion! This book was different from the others before it, more meta with lots of little easter eggs for the avid romance reader. Jordie is such a sweet soul in the body of a player. Harper seems like the first woman who has ever made him work for it. Let me tell you, work for it he does. Jordie goes above and beyond to get his shot with Harper, and through it he starts to think that maybe his payer way of life is not all he thought it was. Harper, does not make it easy. She has sworn to never date a hockey player. Her dad is the coach of the Hawks and she thinks she knows exactly the kind of guy Jordie is.

I expected this book to be more of a slow burn, but was pleasantly surprised at the pacing. This story is funny and steamy and you get to see some nice resolutions for the characters from the previous books. I would not be unhappy if Kendall Ryan changed her mind and brought the Hawks back one day. These Hockey boys always do it for me.

I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily give my review.

Ok not going to lie this was pretty average but I still devoured it. Will I remember this - absolutely not. Was it a bit of fun. Yeah. The start of the book was a bit stalkery - when a woman says no she means no not keep asking her out. But, I think this book had the most developed characters in the series. The whole series is quite templatey but they for the most part have a lot of potential. I love series where we see the characters across the whole series and I loved Jordie earlier (esp in Grant's story). This had heaps of potential to touch on deep issues and have complex, messy characters but it just didn't go there which was a bit disappointing. I will say that Kendall Ryan puts periods in her books (I can't remember if she mentions them in this book but she certainly has across the series multiple times) and massive fucking kudos to her bc I have never seen that in romance before and like hello pls include all that messy real life stuff in your romances. This was a fun series that I blew through. I will certainly read more from Kendall Ryan -I think her biggest issue is the books feel rushed like she didn't get enough time with each couple to properly flesh them out where there was heaps of potential. Nonetheless, these were fun, some where better than others and the cool thing is there are heaps of tropes across the series and you can read them individually or in any order.

Amazing series

This whole series was amazing! I'm sad it's over. I don't think Jordie's story was the best one but it closed out the series well seeing where the other couples stood now.

So, TAKING HIS SHOT. The final story in the Hot Jocks series by author Kendall Ryan. I have to say, I was a little bit surprised by this book. Oh, I knew that I would like it, because Kendall's hockey players have wormed their way into my romance-loving heart, but I wasn't too sure about Jordie. Even though we'd met and liked him in earlier books, at first glance, here he comes across as another one of those guys. You know, immature, typical jock, player, skirt-chaser...but what a heart-melter he turned out to be.

And Harper. Harper is not going down without a fight. As the daughter of the team coach, she has had a long-standing rule about not dating players. And she was hanging tough, but the more she discovers about Jordie, the more they open up to each other, the harder it is for her to stay true to her decision.

TAKING HIS SHOT is emotional, passionate, and heartfelt, and shows just how far Jordie is willing to go to get his love. Harper doesn't stand a chance, and neither did I. What a great finish to a well-loved series. I will miss these boys, and can't wait to see what Kendall has in store for us next. ❤️

Very cute!

Easy and quick read. Nothing too suppring and seams like I have read it couple of times before just with differnt names.

No. Just, no.

This book started out strong, and, as the last book in the Hot Jocks series, I was hoping that Kendall Ryan had actually taken her time with this one and wrote a solid book. Instead, what we get is another rushed, half proofread book, that just falls fall. While I liked Harper, and could tolerate Jordie, the continuity errors and timeline mistakes just took over and I couldn't enjoy it. Not even the few jokes that had me chuckling could make up for the fact that I had to keep going back and forth because my brain was screaming "but that's not what she said three pages ago." The whole thing was clumsy and not as well thought out (or edited) as I would have hoped. Especially for something from Kendall Ryan.

This series started out so strong; the first four books were absolutely great, but then for some reason the rest of the series felt like it was just pushed out with no real thought or effort. I'm honestly disappointed more than anything.
