This was a fantastic read. I really enjoyed the breath of fresh air this brought to the Cosmere with its whimsy.

As with most Sanderson books, worldbuilding is superb! There is so much more I want to see and know about Lumar. I hope we return here in the future. I thought it was a great backdrop for the fairytale-like story that we see with some really stand-out, memorable moments. Though, there were some twists (the big one specifically) that I saw from a mile away. The pacing is brisk and helps with the storybook feel, but there were some moments where I wished we could have slowed down and explored a little more.

While the character work is very well done (I don't think there was a single character that I didn't enjoy) I can't help but feel I'd appreciate a little more depth in some of the side characters. And, while we get a lot of depth to Tress as a character, I wish Sanderson would have trusted the reader more to come to their own conclusions instead of pointing out every way in which Tress was a unique character and how she changed over time.
I feel like this was a bit of a problem throughout many aspects of the book. I think Sanderson just gave a little too much away.

“One of the great tragedies of life is knowing how many people in the world are made to soar, paint, sing, or steer—except they never get the chance to find out.”

If the humor of the Hithchiker's Guide to the Galaxy and the interplanetary whimsy of Treasure Planet had a baby. It's a comfort adventure, to be sure.
