A huge thank you to my bestie for letting me dive into Cry of the Peacock—I absolutely loved it! This beautifully written, haunting tale is a quick yet deeply impactful read that kept me hooked from start to finish. The story’s emotional depth and poetic prose made “humble pie” my mantra as it challenged my perspectives and left me reflecting long after I turned the last page. A must-read for anyone seeking a captivating and thought-provoking experience!
A very good book. I'm not a huge fan of historical fiction, but this book pulled me in. There's an interesting contrast in the lyrical almost poetical style of writing and the brutality of what is described. I had never given a thought to Jews in Iran, indeed I didn't know there were any, and thus book gives a very interesting view of what life could have been like for one of the Jewish families.
This isn’t something I would normally pick but I got it through a mystery book package and figured I’d give it a try. For me, I didn’t enjoy the multiple narrators and the deep dive into each minor character who would be mentioned for five pages and then completely disappear for the rest of the book. The prose itself was fine but the subject matter and overall structure of the book just wasn’t my personal preference.
Beautifully written story about the lives and loves of Peacock, a Jewish woman of Iran. Can literature help bridge the gulf between cultures? If any book could, this one can.
