This is my favourite Sally Rooney book!
This book is about the relationship between Alice and Felix, Alice and Eileen, and Eileen and Simon.
This book tells us a lot of things from how they met, and how their relationship developed to what they wanted out of their relationship. So did they get what they hoped for? Are they living the life they wanted? Where is the journey of life leading them?
-------------------------------
I read this book during my exams. I DNFed this book because it was not easy to read the book without punctuation. It wouldn't have posed a problem if it was a simple book. This book discusses a lot of life questions.
I picked up this book after my exams and read it from the beginning once again.
And...
I Loved It!
It was 'respect' more than 'love'.
The book is more like a psychological study of people.
Sally Rooney is an amazing writer.
There were times when the characters were annoying. There wasn't a great plot. But the way it was narrated

the process of reading this book was loooooooooooooooooong long long long long and quite tedious, and i got so frustrated while reading because nothing happened. but i feel as though the point of the book is to not have this lavish, exciting plot; it genuinely is just to give us a glimpse in the window of the wide expanse of someone's life. a little bite of life with less glitz and glamour than plot driven books. but also that made the book more boring. another thing is that i believe this is sally rooney's best novel that ive read by far but for some reason i'm still rating it lower than normal people because of how mundane the process of reading it was.
i also feel like sally rooney majorly self reflects herself into her characters (for example she is marxist and i feel like every single one of her main characters is marxist which is FINE because its interesting and it sets up opportunity for interesting conversations) but everyone sort of feels the same in the rooneyverse. you could copy and paste and swap everyone into different books and it would all be the same. but one thing she does SPECTACULARLY are the email messages between eileen and alice; they are poignant and there are some beautiful reflections on society, climate change, class, ect ect ect. i would lowkey rather read a sally rooney essay analysis than a book because i think she would slay that. but another issue i have with the book is that it brings up these big big big topics but fails to deliver on the significance. the characters pose these difficult questions yet dance around answering them which left me feeling a little unsatisfied. however, the end of the book was good ngl and it made me like the whole rest of the novel more.
overall sally rooney brings awareness to these large issues and provides an interesting social commentary but i think it falls short in other aspects. the quality of her writing makes the book (kinda) worthy to read (i guess) but it really is not as deep as i expected and its more character relationship driven instead of growth driven which made me angry because felix was not my most favorite character and he was so MEAN but he hung around the whole book. i was expecting a lot more to come out of his and alice's relationship and idek where it ended off. and i genuinely cant get over how much i hated this book when i was reading it. i will be rereading the emails though
