Violet is "forced" to attend a dragon-riding college hungry games to become a super dragon-bonded soldier for the 'good of the people'. This obedient, bookish and fragile girl is not-surprisingly a fast learner and somehow uses her forbidden hot boy*-objectifying wits to quickly improve her combat skills to survive the first year with flying colours. Because she is pretty and for some reason is everything he wants, the gloomy, secretive, "it's not a phase", Adonis boy is also equally obsessed with getting into her pants - except when their bonded dragons are going at it making them both horny but not so much he can't tear himself away from her. For some reason I'm supposed to like her friends that she wasn't meant to befriend in the first place, but their characters are all so flat that I found myself reading their name in a sentence and thinking "Who did what now?".

The last few chapters have a small group of plot twists that aren't plot twist so much as they are where this book (if it were not focused on self-gratification) should focus the plot in the first ¼ of the book. The plot twists ain't twisting.

There is no:
• character development
• intrigue
• character motivation
• plot

Do not pick up this book if you are after a fantasy about dragon-riding soliders training to defeat the Big Bad.

Do read this if you want to read 500-and-something pages of male body objectification and 2½ poorly written explicit sex scenes complete with lightning striking and furniture breaking orgasms.

World building was great and the conflict description was what made me want to keep reading. All the "romance" included could honestly have been left out and it still would have been a good book.

If I could live in this book, I absolutely would. Absolute cinema on paper.

What a ride! I really admired how the main character was honest (perhaps to a fault?) and didn’t fall into the usual pitfalls, which made the story feel so much more authentic. Sure, some plot points were a bit predictable, but I genuinely found myself rooting for these characters the whole way through.

It’s rare to find a fantasy, sci-fi, or adventure book where the main character accurately represents disability. Fourth Wing did, and it meant the world to me. Violet’s struggle to accept that she needs accommodations—then feeling like a fraud when she excels with them, despite her resilience being an asset—mirrors my own experience in real life (minus the dragons).
