loved the writing, the setting & the characters to some extent (even if they felt a bit too mature for their age). it felt a bit too slow-moving as well.
the graphic rape scene
was too much for me, especially as it felt a bit too abrupt. maybe it was my fault for not heeding the content warnings.
i also found out from other reviews that the main couple has a significant age gap when the fmc is still a child, so personally not very into that either lol

I’m speechless. Daughter of the Forest is a tragically beautiful retelling of The Six Swans fairytale. It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with these characters and the journey they went on. This book requires patience, but Juliet Marillier will reward you tenfold with the ultimate slow burn romance.

Highly recommend this for fans of The Bear and the Nightingale, or anyone who loves folklore, fairies, or historical fantasy.

TW: rape, animal death

Wow, I love this so much! Complex, layered, steeped in myths and folklore, this book absolutely broke my heart and then gradually stitched it back together again.

I'd sell BOTH my kidneys if it meant I got to read this for the first time again.

I didn't realize that this was a retelling, which was a pleasant surprise! I ended up quite enjoying this, although the romance wasn't as strong as I wanted it to be. Very atmospheric, and very tense in the end even though I knew it couldn't end awfully. I would check the content warnings though, it got heavy.

Ohhh boy, where to begin? I found this whole book completely frustrating. Never mind the main character is SA’d and the response to that is basically “you’re not the first and won’t be the last, get over it” What?!?! And when Sorcha finally does complete her task her brothers are ungrateful assholes and are confusing protectiveness with arrogance. The only thing I liked about this book was was Sorcha and Red’s relationship. But everything else was horrible, couldn’t stand the amount of dicks in this book, and honestly I was so done that I couldn’t make myself read the last 10 pages. Very disappointing considering the good things that was said about this book.
