Quite the fun book, with a great start and ending, though with quite the slow middle. The characters were good and I enjoyed the desert and Egyptian inspired world.

A good debut novel with a very strong end.

Loved the banter between the characters, especially the dry sense of humor between Fax and Rai. Decent world building that is unique and refreshing without ever feeling like you are drowned in info dumping. The story itself was decent and immersed you in the world.

The book was self published and you pick up on the no editor quite quickly, as the book could have down with another edit or two. Nothing world breaking, but it is there and jarred me from the story from time to time.

All in all a fun read.

This book was great, fast paced, action packed and with great characters! Plus an animal companion who in my brain was a proper little cutie! Its really hard to believe this is a debut novel as it felt very polished and well crafted! Loved the world building and the setting, I’m a sucker for Ancient Egypt and this gave me that feeling to the max. The magic was so interesting and I really cant wait to see how it moves forward in following books. It really had everything, heart pounding action, intrigue and heart breaking gut punches followed up by some of the best humour I’ve read in any book! Would highly recommend this book to anyone!

Plus Fax! Love Fax

Upon the black sands and beneath the ever-watching eyes, a tale of shadow magic and ancient mysteries unfold.
After reading the synopsis of this book, I knew thatI would like it and of course I wasn't disappointed. I loved it and I cannot wait for the sequel to come out.

This is a really good debut novel and I really liked the writing style, as well as the world building (which is Egyptian inspired) and the lore behind it. I also rally enjoyed the characters and the found family trope. One of the things that I liked the most was the magic system that has to do with shadow magic.

It was poorly written. The grammatical mistakes were so numerous it was distracting.

The world building was fascinating and gave me Sanderson vibes, and all in all I thought this was great for a debut novel. This first one had some clunkiness you’d expect from a first novel. The characters were well done and their journeys at times were heartbreaking.
