A beautifully written book, a book that is meant to be read over and over again. Endlessly insightful, the thought provoking ideas roll off the pages a sentence or paragraph at a time. When re-read for the ump-teenth time one walks away with a sense wonder and spectacle about the human condition. More people need to read this book!

Some of it amazing, captivating, and uplifting. Some of it (rarely, but still) complete nonsense.

THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE BOOK!!!! ONE I WILL BE READING FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!! It is one of those books where you never quite finish it, you can sit in the pages for years and never be ready to leave.

This book was recommended to me by a director I worked with. He said that this book changed his life and to be honest, I feel the same after reading it. 10/10 recommend.

A beautiful reframing of universal themes written so eloquently.

A book that to me was like applying a soothing balm or an added positive filter on everyday reality, feelings, words, places, and concepts.

A poetic dictionary with perhaps some of the best definitions. Definitions that go beyond the word and into the full spectrum of feelings and conditions of the human soul associated with it.

Insights, wisdom, and gentle inspiration to be sipped and savored daily and return to from time to time.

One of my favorite lines from David was "...the ultimate touchstone of friendship is not improvement, neither of the other nor of the self, the ultimate touchstone is witness, the privilege of having been seen by someone and the equal privilege of being granted the sight of the essence of another, to have walked with them and to have believed in them, and sometimes just to have accompanied them for however brief a span, on a journey impossible to accomplish alone.”

Don't get me wrong: the ideas and observations described are for sure profound. But I really struggled with the way it is written, as I value clear, concise writing. This was a little overloaded for me. Plus, the inflationary use of the word "generous" was a real problem. Oftentimes I suspect that it's added to make the thought sound more deep than it is (of which I already had enough watching School of Life on YouTube).
