This was such a great read!  I didn't know what to expect since I read the back of this book two months ago.  I loved how Kamali (author) took us through the history of Ellie and Homa that lasted six decades of their lives.  The history of which also discuss the real life history of Iran's fear, repression, and abuse of the women of the country.  Unfortunately, this continues today.  I loved how Homa and her unrelentless fight for the women of Iran.  Ellie's role reflects what happens when you doubt what and who your real friends are.  Her story is bit less clear cut in her intentions however by the end the focus is more sharpen and clearly defined. This book similar to Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow - reflects the morphing of friendships and circuitous paths it can take before it returns home.  This is a very worthy read.

A powerful and moving story. Slow-paced at many many parts but it carefully tells a story spanning decades. Taught me about Persian history and culture. Her prose is stunning and it’s a very emotional, empowering story.

Marjan Kamali has done it yet again. this author can create such real characters that you love and feel frustration towards at different points in the book. this author can make me cry like almost no other.

Very good book, but as I anticipated, a difficult read. I loved the writing and character development, the vivid descriptions of food and clothes and setting. It's incredible to read about Iran before the revolutions and to know they're still being controlled by extremists today.

Marjan Kamali is an author everyone should add to their TBR list. I want to go back and read her first novel now. This is a powerful and beautifully written story about two women who grow up in Tehran, Iran during the 1950-1970s. Marjan weaves a story about friendship, family, betrayal and finding your voice in a world that doesn't always respect and value women, or offer them their freedom over their choices or their bodies.  This story broke my heart over and over for Ellie & Homa on their quest to become "Lion Women" but also lit in me a fire to raise my voice for things that I believe in ❤️
