This was pleasant. A little slow, but the town and the people were all cute and quirky. It was a good light read.

In first half of book two of the three main characters annoyed the daylights out of me, luckily in last third of book they became tolerable, to the point of actually caring what happened to them. One was just so cloyingly sweet it was obnoxious and the other was just abrasive. May read the next book to see if the characters focused on in that one are less annoying. Story line is an interesting one at least.

I really enjoyed this book set in the whimsical small town of Dove Pond. The Dove sisters all have some magic in them and Sarah's ability to hear books was interesting. I enjoyed seeing how different people in the town accepted her ability. Grace was an interesting character and I enjoyed her growth through the novel, I felt like the way she dealt with her suddenly being thrust into the roles of a caretaker and a mother was very honest and real. I look forward to reading the other books in the series.

3.5 Stars to sweet cozy novel. I enjoyed the story and characters. I hope they’re all there in the second book and where we can learn more about them.

Very sweet. A bit predictable, but I cared about the characters at the end. Cover famous author quote suggests it's like 'Practical Magic' and I found that to be very true.

Grace shows up in Dove Pond, angry with the world, but mostly with her sister. Sarah's family has been in Dove Pond for generations, and she believes she'll be the one to save the town, until Grace shows up.

The Book Charmer is a beautiful story that interleaves Sarah's quest to save her town and Grace's quest to save her family. Equally plot and character driven, Karen Hawkins does a wonderful job painting a picture of Dove Pond and all it's inhabitants (those with magical powers, and those without), and shows us the power of friendship in saving the ones we love.

For the genre of chick lit with a little magic I thought this was pretty good. I liked the characters and setting. The story was very predictable but was an enjoyable read.
