I picked this up while waiting for a hold on another book, and while I initially enjoyed it, the practical how-to advice disappeared about a third of the way through. It became more about advice for journalists than writers in general and the little workshops at the end of each chapter went from applying concepts to your own writing to just reading more about those concepts on your own. It also became bizarrely political in its later examples, most egregiously in chapter 33, which made me put down the book entirely. Truly odd.

You can definitely find this advice in other craft books, and you probably should.

Concise, useful. Particularly handy for journalism and persuasive writing. The kind of book you pick up and flick through, rather than reading in one sitting.
