Ah! A manga I really wanted to get into and love and read more and more of. But, that’s not what ended up happening. Not that it was bad, because it wasn’t, but it did leave me wishing several things were different and a few more of it was ventured into. Like the parts that included Miura Kurara, which were extremely too short (yes, don’t judge me… he reminded me a little bit about that brooding vampire that might go by the name of Edward Cullen lol).

“I’m passive, but I have a certain air of mystery… so to be though of as not so intriguing is… quite vexing. I may be more than 400 years old, but it’s still a sore spot for me. Just being around for 400 years means I’ve accrued many sins… so I just wanted a peaceful, unexciting life… I thought being average would be enough.”

I know, I know this is a story about Koide and what he’s having to go through reaching his 133th time in high school as an endless 16 year old. Interesting enough, but not sure if it was the way his character was written or that vampires might be fading just a little bit more each day that passes, I just couldn’t get into caring as much for his character as I did for the best friend (again, Mr. Almost Edward Cullen… yes, yes I might be a little obsessed).

It’s just that I see where the story was trying to go, enhancing the negative effects of vampirism into a morbid sort of humorous kinda way and making the humans out to be the “bad guys”. And yes, I very much enjoyed the parts that included the other vampires in these two volumes (dreamy, nerdy, 205th time 18 year old, Rui Keiju). But, it wasn’t until the second volume that I started caring more for the main character whom this should all be revolving around.

“Awww, come on… jeez… all I’m trying to do is enjoy my school life. Maybe I should just read books alone all day like Miura.”

Ok, ok, it was mostly directed and pertaining to Miura, but it did include Koide and his character was a little more appealing and not so annoyingly sullen the second time around. You might be asking why I got book two when I didn’t like one as much. Well, because I got both of them at the same time, seeing that it included vampires and it was manga I didn’t worry much about anything else. Which, like I said wasn’t a total loss because of the supporting characters/vampires in here.

The last thing I will say about this collection and why I couldn’t rate it higher or get more into it was the lack of volumes. Maybe if given the chance I could have come to enjoy it more, or get a better feel for who Koide was in those years and why he was even more gloomy and moodier than the rest. Or maybe not, either way we won’t know anymore with it being such a sudden break. I searched for more info on the topic, but didn’t find much out there. So, onto the next manga adventure it is.

not much plot here. not much happens at all, honestly. and i guess that did sort of take away from my enjoyment of it? it's far far from bad, though. i thought the art was nice and the protagonist's general awkwardness is fun to witness. and i like vampires in media. but it's not the best thing ever.

eh. it wasn't as funny as I was hoping and it was super repetitive. I was bored a little less than halfway through so I probably won't be continuing this series.

This was ridiculously repetitive and way less funny than I thought it would be. I wouldn't recommend it. 1 star.

Hmm, it wasn't as funny as I had hoped it was. A few pages towards the middle were pretty hilarious, but over all I was a little disappointed. I wouldn't say I disliked it, but it didn't grab my interest that much. However, I'm willing to read up to volume 3. If it doesn't seem like it's going to get better by volume 3 then I guess I will not continue the series.
