“Everything always seemed authentic, even when—especially when—it wasn’t. This moment was definitely for the cameras. I understood that. But the look in her eyes and the words falling from her lips were so reminiscent…that my brain felt a little cloudy.”

this book is everything to me. i have been craving for a black/black lesbian love story that will live with me and my body for the rest of time and this book is it. from the characters, the undeniable chemistry, the premise of the book—fake dating for money—, and their support systems, i am truly in enthralled by this book. i know for other people they felt like kris and d’vaughn’s feelings were too quick and too deep, but as a queer person, it’s real lol. when you find someone who sees you and still loves you through all those bare bones, you find yourself falling falling falling deep for them. i love how the author cared for coming out, patriarchal views, and the pressures of one’s past love life and how it can reflect in their current relationship. this was so good, i loved it. i loved the families too, just a really good feel good book that everyone should read!
