Kris (an Afro-Latina stud) is looking for real love and D’Vaughn (a plus-sized closeted femme) is looking to finally live her life freely. Sparks fly when they meet and navigate the reality show process in this LGBTQ+ rom-com. D’Vaughn aggravated my very last nerve with her constant doubts, but their love story was endearing and realistic.

This was really cute! I loved the emphasis on communication and how there wasn’t any unnecessary drama. I also enjoyed the humour and all of the secondary characters, especially Kris’s family.

Unfortunately though, I just wasn’t sold on the whole reality TV premise. It seemed really cruel and out of character for our two heroines to lie to their families and make them plan a fake wedding (and honestly, their families are way nicer than me because I would’ve been mad to find out it was all lies after genuinely welcoming someone into the family and putting all that work into the planning). I was also completely baffled by
the choice at the end to get married over taking the money — weddings aren’t cheap but you can certainly pay for one with plenty left over with two hundred thousand between you.

This was a nice quick read! All about two Black women falling in love with likeable and relatable characters that have amazing chemistry. This book is also so funny! It was also so lighthearted with no big conflict towards the end due to the characters being mature and having great communication throughout the book as they learn trust and love each other.

I adored this book so much. I've been desperately been needing a fun romance and since this delivered.

It was so clear that the diversity in this book was a love note to the communities represented. It was an unapologetically healthy lesbian romance that really raised my standards for other romances.

This book made me actually like the insta-love trope which is a miracle. The main relationship is just absolutely amazing. The two characters have so much chemistry and it is very clear that they care for each other. I love how the coming out storyline was handled and particularly the relationships between each character and their families was so well explored. I think the reality show premise was also used spectacularly.

For once, I'm not irritated by the word choice in the spicy scenes. I love the conversations about boundaries and consent and just the general amazing communication. Seeing a healthy relationship represented like this was phenomenal. The ending of this book was so satisfying and just left me feeling so much joy.

I will give the caveat that there is one pretty transphobic line in this book said by a side character. Beyond that though, I didn't find many problems with this book.

I read this book in a single sitting and I cannot recommend this book enough to people who are looking for good lesbian or sapphic romances.
