I nearly gave up as it started slow and tedious, but glad I persevered as things started to happen about a quarter of the way in

много хубаво, много красиво, много забавно
малко мъчно
но по най-добрия начин

2.5 ⭐

I have gone back and forth in my brain in order to come to a conclusion about this book and the conclusion is that it was meh. It was not the best, it was not the worst. It was an okay read. I'm glad I read it because I wanted to read one of my best friend's favourite book but I'm not angry about my time that I spent reading it either.

Every time I read this book, I was feeling sleepy because of the repetitiveness. I thought it was a me-problem and that I was reading it when I was extremely tired but it's safe to say that it was this book's problem.

Initially I was excited because everything was new, the journal format of writing was new, the characters were new, the setting and everything was new. I was curious and started attaching meaning to everything because I thought I was supposed to read into things. So just because I was trying to find meaning for everything, I thought that this book was making me think. But I didn't realise that I was thinking so much because otherwise I wasn't able to get attached to the story or understand things myself.

But that was also a downfall for me because I thought too hard and kind of predicted the ending or reveal/twist around the 100 pages mark and so it was very 'bleh' when the ending was revealed to us. I do understand that there are some things that you can relate about The House and the real world and how sometimes you just need to go into your mental safe place and stay there in order to decompress from the intensity of our world. But it still wasn't enough for the book to be amazing for me.

I've never been one to love detailed descriptions of things and in this book, the house was described painstakingly in detail. I skimmed over most of it and I'm sure that wasn't the point of the book. I would have appreciated it more if I had some more things to connect with about the people in the book.

My predictions were that Piranesi has a mental illness but is experimented with and kept as a prisoner in the lab by his therapist/psychologist who is the 'Other'. I was kind of correct but it ended up being an otherworldly thing that The House was. I couldn't connect to the magical/ritual part of the story because I thought it was just supposed to be a comparison to the real-life world.

All in all, it was an okay read but it could have been better.
