This was my second Molly Murphy mystery. It was ok---but I really think this author can do better. The ending wrapped up much too neatly and the "manger scene" was obviously contrived for titling purposes. I was also a little upset at how Molly broke some pretty important news to the children. It just didn't seem like a realistic story.

Operation "Read formulaic genre fiction that doesn't make me think until the smoke lifts" is in full swing here.

This is a perfect light and sweet read to help set the tone for the holiday season with likable characters and a few very sweet children at the center of the story

I do enjoy these Molly Murphy mysteries. They are light reading with a touch of interesting history.

It's December 1905, and Molly and Daniel Sullivan are beginning to adjust to life in a rebuilt house with their young son, Liam, and Bridie, a young Irish lass who has come to live with them.

Molly, Liam, and Bridie are out running errands in bitter weather when they chance upon a very young girl, inadequately dressed for the winter, singing Christmas carols. Molly and Bridie decide to help the girl by giving her warmer clothes and some money, but they are appalled when they see the money taken from her by an older boy. It turns out that the children are siblings, living with an "Aunt Hettie" while waiting for their mother, who has been gone for several months, to return.

While Molly works to discover what happened to the mother, the children are temporarily adopted by Molly's neighbors, Gus and Sid, who are outraged at the treatment the children are receiving from their alleged aunt. At the same time, Molly's mother-in-law comes to stay for Christmas just as Daniel is seriously wounded in a shooting. An article in the society pages appears to provide a clue to the identity of the missing mother, so Molly is kept extremely busy running errands, visiting Daniel, paying calls, and delving into the mystery of the missing mother. It is all resolved satisfactorily in the end, but not without a few moments of peril.

This was an enjoyable entry in the Molly Murphy series. I like the fact that although Molly is trying her best to be a good wife and mother, she still has occasional impulses to help others which lead her astray.

I received an advance copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

*Disclaimer I won this in a Goodreads giveaway the opinion is my own though*

Delightful book I read in a day, I couldn't stop reading it. I haven't read any other books in the series but the book is still easy to follow without reading the other books. I will be going back and reading the rest of the books in the series so I know more about the characters. I loved the plot and the different descriptions of the people and town really brought 1905 to life in my mind. Wonderful book that if you are looking for a quick cozy read this book fits the description perfectly.

While I loved it like I love all of Rhys Bowen's writings, I was a bit disappointed in the unraveling of who did it. It seemed a tad forced and obvious.

I've been wanting to read some of Rhys Bowen's Molly Murphy series for a while. My library has a lot of them in hardback/paperback but none in digital format. Until they got this Christmas one this year. I knew I was way behind and was worried I would be mildly lost with the characters and plotlines, but thankfully that was not the case. She did a really good job of explaining who everyone was and when referencing other characters or previous stories, it was not so that I was lot and I imagine one who reads the series would not think it was too overly spelled out. A good Christmas mystery, very enjoyable. I hope my library continues to add the digital editions of her books so I can read more!
