Joy is the main focus of the book as the 3 main characters meet and grow their friendship. Suitable for any young reader but seems like it might appeal to the younger side of the ya audience.

This book is based in Melbourne, Australia so I was able to instantly picture the bush behind Iris’ house. The writing is simple yet beautiful, so it’s very accessible to young readers. I’ll definitely be coming back to this book when I need something soft and gentle.

I’ve added Alison Evans' other books to my TBR

a very cute, cozy, quick, queer read!! so lovely to have multiple trans characters of multiple genders represented in a way that centers joy and euphoria (as the title suggests) without shying away from the negative aspects but not dwelling on them at the same time. i found things rather nicely balanced.

while this book is marked young adult and is about three 16 year olds, the story and prose read as a bit younger. i think this would be perfectly suitable for a middle grade audience as well which i think is great. i'm excited to have this book on hand to recommend to kiddos!

I adored this book! The cozy vibes in combination with the trans and non-binary protagonists — all of whom were beautifully written — made this exactly the read I was
looking for. I wish this kind of representation of gender in books had been a thing when I was a teenager, but knowing it's out in the world now and reading it is still really wonderful and exciting. I loved seeing the reality of chronic illness, different family constellations, and the challenges of making empathetic decisions in a world that's not set up for it as authentic parts of the story, rather than feeling tagged on. I'll definitely read more works by this author!

Euphoric and sweet, with some much needed optimism for young gender-diverse people.
