I liked the first half of this book more than the second. The author's infertility journey was kind of interesting, but I didn't feel like it was what I signed on for when picking up the book. I think I expected more encouragement about being a late bloomer, but maybe that was an unfair expectation from a memoir.

It just wound up being a rehashing of her very insecure life, which actually featured many more friendships and romantic and/or sexual relationships than I expected for a book about being a late bloomer. I'm a depressed bitch, I can handle a pity party, but I couldn't handle any more of her woe is me attitude to see if it got more profound or reflective.

Reading this, I realized that I need to read more memoirs because 1st person just does something for me but I found this one to be nothing that special. It was a bit too much of a dating memoir for me...

This is memoir I related to quite a bit and not just the being a late bloomer. I also related to Doree's fertility and pregnancy struggles. I listened to the audiobook and it was like listening to her podcasts. Her voice is very soothing. As a rule, I don't give star ratings to memoirs but I do reccomed this book to anybody who has ever felt left out becuase they hadn't done this or that by a certain time.

i liked this memoir! even though she’s twice my age, doree and i seem to view the world in remarkably similar ways, and i really appreciated her candor. not everything about sex or dating or marriage (i would imagine) is glamorous, and it’s important to talk about it!! everyone goes at their own pace and it’s often for a reason <3

As a somewhat late bloomer myself, I really appreciated this heartfelt and vulnerable memoir of how it feels to still be swirling around when everybody else seems like they have things figured out. Shafrir sharing details of her dating life in her 30s and her struggles with fertility was both shocking and comforting in that she shared the reality, not the Instagram filtered version of life where everything is beautiful and easy.

And I loved the underlying theme of her journey towards self acceptance that what she wanted mattered more than what "they" thought.

Quick and easy read but very enjoyable.

Interestingly, I tried reading her novel before this but thought it was trite and shallow because I've read and lived too many similar tech stories. Her memoir felt much deeper and original.

I listened to Matt & Doreen's Eggcellent Adventure, their podcast about IVF & then parenting, so was very excited when I heard Doree was releasing a memoir! An enjoyable read!

Thank you, Doree, for writing this book for all of us late bloomers. Because 'night flowers bloom the brightest'.
