I’m glad I finished this, because the last 100 or so pages were fantastic, but from pages 300-500, I really hated where the story went.
This is like Killing Commentadore but the adult-child romance isn't as fully fledged (which is good)

I DNFed the Kindle version because I felt like I was wasting my time on a long, slow, meandering story that didn’t seem to have a point. I then realized I had added this title to a reading challenge, so I finished it by audiobook. There were parts I liked, but I’m not sure it was worth it in the end. I also was put off by the interactions between the adult protagonist and a 17 year old girl.

I will think about this book for a while. Things this book has: a well, a cat, phone calls, rice pudding turning into macaroni cheese, war stories, wig companies. At times, it did feel like a chore to get through it; I was about 300 pages in and I had no idea what was going on. That didn't really change even when I finished it though. Would only recommend if you don't mind being clueless, just go along for the vibes.
