A solid first book for this series! It dragged at parts, but I enjoyed the time it took to introduce the main characters and made the world feel lived in. The reveal of who was the murderer felt a bit cheap, but it was resolved well enough, anyway. I look forward to checking out the rest of the books.

I really liked this book. Part crime, part horror and all wrapped up in a delicious gothic parcel. Have had this book on my TBR for a long while and if I knew what a great book it was I would have read this long ago!
I will tell you nothing of the plot, suffice to say, Ian Frey a CID inspector is sent from London to Edinburgh and the adventure begins.
Well deserving of 5 stars and I urge you too read it.

I knew from the start that I would enjoy Frey and McGray dynamic.

It was a very intriguing book that keep me always on my toes trying to decipher who was doing all that and if it's was or not the devil.
