I found the first quarter a little slow, but as the world building finished and the action picked up, I found myself quite interested in what would happen to Haeri. The idea of a frozen world with only one city full of actors that still has normal temperatures is quite intriguing, as is the way electricity is produced in this dystopian future. JB becomes an interesting character as the book processes, and her family at home, even though we only see them for a few scenes, are also characters to care about. Thankfully, book two in this duology comes out in a week because I'm now really excited to see what happens.

Very interesting world for this dystopia, but it’s the kind that focuses almost entirely on the main character discovering the cracks in the system rather than giving us any kind of personal development. So while I liked the setting of this one, and the implied critique in a system that is so focused on broadcasting personal stories, I didn’t find it satisfying in the end, and I likely won’t be reading the sequel.

The line between reality and fiction blurs in this twisty dystopian novel. Chobahm has dreamed of leaving her freezing cold village and moving to Snowglobe, a temperature controlled settlement in a climate-ravaged world. But to live in Snowglobe one must either be an actor whose life is constantly filmed or a director who makes the actors' stories television-ready. When the most famous director in Snowglobe approaches Chobahm with a mysterious opportunity to move to Snowglobe, Chobahm readily agrees. Everything may be televised in Snowglobe, but nothing is as it appears. Chobahm finds herself questioning everything she thought she knew, including herself, as she walks the line between truth and fiction. The translation from Korean to English is impeccable and dystopian fans will enjoy the familiar beats of the genre. The well-paced plot keeps readers engaged while the ending leaves them excited for a sequel.

This book is like 5 books in a trench coat - so many plot twists, so little resolution.
Also, this author needs to graffiti the phrase "SHOW DON'T TELL" on their wall, before they hit me with another exposition dump.
Great ideas, horrible execution.
