not much character but a lot of plot and boy was the plot INTERESTING. 7/10 translation felt a little off kilter BUT had a good time and would recommend
This dystopian set in a subzero world examines the effects of living in the spotlight and having your real life be a spectacle for views. Basically, the world is run by the entertainment industry because watching reality TV set in a small warm area of the world is the only outlet those stuck out in the frozen world have. Of course, corruption abounds, and the main character discovers that the secrets lurking in the Snowglobe go deeper than she ever could have imagined. The book shows how living a "real" life under a microscope can be nearly impossible. This topic seems especially relatable because of the rise of social media. This book will appeal to YA readers who love action and intrigue!

I received a copy from Penguin Publishers as part of their monthly bookclub read along.
i really love a good dystopian book and this did not dissapoint! The world building was very well thought out and the characters were rather interesting. It played alot on the premise of greed and what people will do to keep their status quo. If this is ever turned into a k-drama. Im here for it! It would make for a really good tv show... ironic don't you think?
We meet Chobahm who has a twin brother Ongi.. Chobahm lives on the outside like the rest of the population, that somehow manage to survive in -50 degree F.... something I cannot comprehend! They work at a plant to help produce electricity to their homes and to Snowglobe. Snowglobe is created ontop of a geothermal spring, so the people who live in there, get to live with warmth, luxery, good food ect. Whilst the people who supply them with the power to do so, work themselves to death.
Chobahm dreams of becoming a director for Snowglobe and is always compared to one of the main popular actresses Haeri. She gets approached by Director Cha to take Haeri's place in Snowglobe and with minimal thinking (very annoying), she agrees....but then when things take a turn in a negative direction she realises that not everything is as bright and shiny at snowglobe.
The twists and turns in the plot were really good. But Chobahm's character, I didn't love as much. She just said yes so much, even though there moments that I thought she would have more push back...but because of her idea of still being able to be a Director in the future, it was a carrot to dangle and distract.
Definately worth a read, and i am looking forward to seeing the direction that book 2 Takes as it does end with some cliffhanger type moments.
